Building a new home – heat with…..?

We are building a new home. 3300 heated living space. I know geothermal costs more up front to install than an oil heating system – but is geothermal heating all that it is cracked up to be? will it be cheaper/more efficient than oil heat? any other thoughts would be welcome. thanks!

I don’t have geothermal but I know people who do. If you have the space on your land and can afford it, go with it. In the long run it will save you money since it is cheaper to run than oil heat. Also since it runs on electricity the future price is more likely to be much more stable than gas or oil. It also should increase the resale value of the home. At times I have heard comments that service repairs may be more costly, but todays 90-95% furnaces are often troublesome and costly to repair also. (It also will cool your home in summer)
