How long does it take home heating oil to work?
The heating man just came and I was wondering how long does it take for home heating oil to start burning?! He came like an hour ago, and my house is still cold! We got 100 gallons but no heat is comming up!
You should have heat in about 10 minutes if the furnace is running. It sounds like you let the storage tank run too low and the pump on the burner gun has to be primed. On the pump side of the gun burner you will find a small plug with a hole in it. This is the way you prime a pump. Turn it counter clock ways to open it about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Now hit the reset on the furnace and the gun should turn on. Hold a small can under the plug and catch any oil pumped out. Once it start to spew oil turn the little nozzle clock ways and close it. You might have to hit the reset again. The furnace should start up now that the air is out of the line. I think the wrench size is 7/16 “.

Is the furnace running? Keep in mind that if you allowed your tank to run dry, you wil probably need to prime the oil burner before the fuel will begin to flow to the furnace. My delivery company has done that for me on the one occasion that the tank ran dry, so I can’t give you details on how it is done. Perhaps you can ask for their help.
