how long does BX CABLE last for electric heating in a home ???
our home has BX CABLE in crawl space attached to beams for electric heat. How long does this remain safe, how can one tell, etc. has been in house at least 35 years. want reputable replies only!!!
I agree with John. The wire and cable will outlast you. Its not the cable/ wire you need to worry about. The problems arise when connections become loose. Either at the power panel, or the heater itself. As long as your connections are tight, you are not running high- current continuous loads, the BX is not in water, and you don’t pound it with a hammer, it will last forever.

The insulation surrounding the wire inside the BX will harden over time and become brittle. If left undisturbed, it will remain intact inside the outer metal coating. If, however, you start moving it around, the insulation will break and deteriorate, possibly causing a short circuit. Hopefully your fuses/breakers will open the circuit before the wires begin to burn.
My home had both BX and knob and tube wiring when I moved in. As an electrician, my first order of business was to upgrade the electrical to romex wire.
That all said, the decision to remove the BX is yours. It depends on the situation.

It will last pretty much forever if left alone. Don’t worry about it.
Don’t take electrical advise from untrained people. Or from those posing as qualified.
