How long can heating oil be kept in the oil tanks before it is unusable.?

I have 3 Full tanks of heating oil that is six years oil. Left over from gas conversion. I am thinking that I might be able to use this spare oil to run a desil car.

some people shouldn’t answer questions if they don’t know the answer. I hate misinformating people.
For everyone’s information I know many people who run their diesel cars on OLD FISH AND CHIPS and restaurant old oil.
So long as it is filtered correctly and mixed with diesel you will have no problems running ANY diesel car on any kind of oil, in fact I heard the engines will last longer! go on, search google for “run my diesel on oil” and see for yourself.

Heating oil and diesel oil are two different things. You will wreck your engine if you try to run it on heating oil.

I doubt you can ever use fuel oil in any type of DIESEL engine. Could you try calling a local fuel supplier and ask if they might be able to buy it back or tell you what to do with it.

I don’t believe that it ever goes "bad", but I would recommend that you call a local heating oil supplier and ask the for the fuel dept. manager….

Also, because it is sold as heating oil it is colored red, and at least here in Canada that means that you cannot legally use it in motor vehicles (something to do with either death or road taxes I’m sure).

Make that phone call just to make sure, ok?

  5. Question Queen Says:

NO DON"T! This will destroy your engine and cost you $1000′s of $$$$$. We owned an auto repair shop for many years…I know!

  6. LIZA P Says:

wow i don’t know but if you call oil company they can come out and purchase back from you at a reduced price I’m pretty sure that can happen or call company who takes used oil if company doesn’t want to buy back as for the car thing maybe it can used but with caution i have used diesel on my oil burner until i received oil delivery….

Maybe you should have waited 6 years to convert.
