EV Project arrives in Oregon with free charging stations for electric cars

How do I shut off the water heater? What is the typical cost to replace one?
Our water heater flooded our garage. I am assuming it needs replacing. I shut off the water to the house and the pilot on the water heater, but how do I shut off the water going to the water heater? What is the typical cost to replace a water heater?
Your water heater should have shut off valve where the water lines enter it. It is possible you do not have a shutoff valve. I would guess a plumber will charge about $200.00 labor to install a new one. Are you sure it is the water heater leaking and not a faulty relief valve on top of water heater. Did you see the water coming out or just find a wet floor. Good luck

on top of there should be a valve connected by a pipe to the water main or water softener if you have one that is the supply to the water heater turn that off
cost depends on the size of the water heater and type gas is cheaper than electric
call you local home improvement store and ask them

Many older tanks that were installed dint have the cutoffs installed (it was cheaper). Trace the incoming water line(from the tank) as far back as possible and you might be lucky, find a cutoff down the line. If you cannot locate one than you are right by having to cut the water off to the entire home.
Depending on the age of the tank it’s possible that it rusted through or someone ran into it with a car and broke the glass lining inside. First make sure the water didn’t come from a broken pipe leading to the water heater or somewhere in the area.
If it’s defiantly the tank than the price is going to depend on the cost of labor (typically 200-300 bucks) plus materials/tank. Make sure whether the pros do it or you do it; you install cutoff’s on the intake side and the exit side within easy reach.
