What does it mean when the auxiliary heat pump comes on when the air conditioner should be running?

Central air conditioning/heat pump unit. Close to 90% so it sounds like something is messed up with the thermostat??

You didn’t say whether the unit was cooling or not. There is a temp. delay relay that will turn on the blower when ther is a buildup of heat in the area of the furnace. I suspect this is what is happening to your unit. If the aux. heat is coming on, you have a problem with the t-stat, but first make sure the a/c is cooling correctly. Good luck and God Bless.
