Geothermal Heat Pump w/Back up Heat ?

When we built a house several years back. We installed a Geo-Thermal furnace for our heating and cooling needs. We chose the ground loop system.
We live in the Northern, Kentucky area. We do have a few winter days that cause the Geo to kick the back up heater to help keep the house at 67. Do we save money by turning off the heating elements on the back up heat? Granted, we know that the furnace will not be able to hit the 67 temp.

as cold as its getting this winter, i would leave them on, bite the bullet and stay warm
its down to 23 deg here in northern TN and my water is froze

I think you will have more heat than you can use and store. Have you thought of offering the systems telemetry over the Internet and dumping it into a data base?

This is an awesome house by an awesome builder. I should know… it is my new house. It has wonderful experimental windows (shown in previous videos), that I never expected at the start of this project. It all just sort of evolved. It is my own private “Woodstock”. Eebuilder, Tom has researched it all since age 15, he is now 40 plus a little.
I am the lucky recipient of all that knowledge.

Your job would have been a lot easier and simpler with a B&D HSS Buffer tank and a non-pressurized flow center.

I love this technology. I have it my house in Cooperstown, NY. It is constant, warm heat. You don’t notice it going on or off. And it’s LYING there in the ground. All we have to do is go fetch.
