New Home should i heat my basement for total efficiency?

New construction, basement has heat vents, no returns. Walls poured concrete, we don’t have a living space down there per say yet. So i was wondering if i should let the heat flow down there now, will that keep the rest of the home warmer? Will it keep heating costs down if the basement is warm and radiates it up through the floor? Or will that heat used down there just be a waste?

Don’t heat the basement unless you are using it. The heat traveling upstairs will be minimal. To improve efficiency wrap your hot water pipes, especially of you are using forced where you have large hot water pipes feeding the air handlers.

Everything helps.

What we did was setup the basement as a separate zone. They installed a damper that will open and close automatically when heat is required.
