101 things to do in Wyobraska
Nothing to do? No way! For years we’ve heard the lament that there’s nothing to do in Nebraska. At the Star-Herald, we don’t believe that.
Best way to shop around for home heating oil?

I live in Maine and bought my first house in June. The heating season is coming and I don’t have a clue on how to get a good deal on home heating oil. I don’t want to pay anymore than I have to. Can anyone help?

Ask your neighbors which one they use and if they have had good experience. Most of the dealers have similar prices but the real key thing is service.

Saving a dime per gallon is nice but think how you will feel if it is snowing and ten below in December with your heat not working and the oil dealer says they can’t send a repair guy out because it is Christmas eve.

When you consider starting as a new customer ask the dealer if they have any new-customer specials like first tank of oil free or a free burner cleaning. Around here most dealers do that.

We use to live in Florida and there was only one company just like your electric or water companies. So you may not have a choice. But if you do, look in your telephone’s yellow pages, call around and get at least two or three bids. Ask for a contract of some sort so you will know what and when they will give you service. How and when you are to pay for the heating oil.

You could also ask your neighbors. Don’t be shy, knock on their door and ask.

check prices at the local suppliers and go with the best price. all heating oil is the same, normally #2 fuel oil. however, depending on how cold it gets in maine, you may have to sometime use #1 (kerosene) or a mixture of the two. talk to ur neighbors about which one to use. (kerosene is much higher than #2 fuel oil. )

Check in your phone book and see if their is more than one company in your area to compare prices with. Go with the cheapest.
